BYB celebrates second birthday and annouces new website, record sales and new premises


In September 2012 when Broadland Yacht Brokers opened its “online doors” to the boating public no one could have imagined the success that was to follow over the next two years. Today, the business celebrates its second birthday alongside announcements of record sales, increased number of registered customers and the news that the business will soon be operating from premises, which will include a marina with sales berths.


BYB’s Director, recently married, Mum of three, Pam Waters is astonished but not surprised at the immediate success of the business as she firmly believed that there was a gap in the market for a more personal, one to one and down to earth approach from a smaller company to the buying and selling of new and used boats. “Many customers have become firm boating friends with a growing number of new customers coming by way of recommendations. We are also experiencing a large number of repeat business which is testament to the service customers receive”.


The popular BYB website has also been re-launched today with both subtle changes and additional features including a new search facility being added. With just under 3,000 registered users of the site it is an excellent starting point for not only owners looking to sell their boat as it also links through to the hugely popular websites of Apollo Duck, Boats and Outboards, Rightboat, Boatshop and Yachtmarket, which ensures that the marketing of all our boats is far reaching but for customers searching for their new boat. Pam explains that she has listened to customers’ comments whom love the aparent simplicity and no fuss format of the existing website but she is keen to not rest on her laurels and continue to develop the site to keep up with the business as it grows.


Growth is certainly huge for this small company which was born from a deep love of the Broads and all things “boaty”, coupled with a desire to provide a first class service to everyone whether they are selling or purchasing anything from a small dinghy to the largest cruiser. Year on year has seen a massive increase in sales and the months of May and August 2014 were record breaking months. To date the company has sold just under £2 million pounds worth of boats across the Broads and that total is rapidly growing.


Earlier in the year BYB identified another gap in the market after being approached by a customer who had just bought a boat from them. Following discussions with that owner the Management Service was developed to take the stress, worry and time consumption out of boat ownership. Everything from internal and external valets, polishing, checking on moorings, preparing a boat for the arrival of its owner be it refueling, pumping out or just simply getting a pint of milk or a loaf of bread onboard. “Many owners live many miles away from their boats and lead extremely busy lives” says Pam “it is important to them that their boat is well cared for, well presented and that their time on the water is enjoyed doing just that and not spoilt by having to carry out the vast number of jobs needed before leaving the mooring. We offer a very flexible approach and can be as hands on or off as the owner requires. Our services can be weekly, monthly or even annually but ultimately we always care for their boat as we would our own. This service has grown quickly with many customers asking for regular valets and the number of owners asking us to care for their boats over the winter is increasing”.


Over the last two years BYB has developed strong links and close working relationships with yards across the Broads but the majority of brokerage boats remain on their own moorings and owners still have the opportunity to use their boat until a sale has been agreed. In order for the business to expand Pam is thrilled to announce that BYB will shortly be moving to new premises and will be offering both hard standing and sales berths in their marina on the northern Broads. Brokerage at locations across the Broads will still be a key and very important part of the business, however, the new office and facilities will be an excellent base and showcase for customers.
